Friday Feedback: Should Nation Be Sweet on a Soda Tax? It worked for cigarettes -- why not for sugary drinks?

We contacted diet and nutrition experts via email to ask: 

Do you agree that the demand for sugary goods is genuinely responsive to price? To what extent will people simply find other, untaxed sources of sweetened foods, such that the health benefits are mitigated?

How soon will we know whether such taxes are having the intended benefit?

Is the science underlying the belief that sodas are unhealthy strong enough to justify this move?

How fair is it to single out this one type of unhealthy foods, given that there are many sources of "empty calories" on the market?
