Exertion-related Rhabdomyolysis Observed With Hyperthyroidism
While rhabdomyolysis has been associated with many causative factors, it is rarely described in connection with hyperthyroidism. We report a 42-year-old woman with a history of two rhabdomyolysis events who was found to have underlying Graves’ disease. We suspected that thyroid disease could be contributing to her recurring episodes. Clinicians should consider hyperthyroidism in the differential for rhabdomyolysis in physically active patients.
